Maresa joins the Hatchett team as our Production Design Coordinator and Virginia Beach Showroom Receptionist. Maresa has a diverse background including a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Howard University, Washington, D.C. and 35 years of government service at Norfolk Naval Shipyard before retiring from there. Originally a New Yorker from a small town on Long Island, Maresa met her husband Carl while working at Norfolk Naval Shipyard. Between them they have four children (Kristy, Ronald, Taurean, Ashley), one grandchild (Daniel), and one dog (Neo).
How did your path bring you to Hatchett?
I have always had a love of interior design and home remodeling. That led me to take some interior design classes at Tidewater Community College. One of the first projects I undertook after retiring was to completely remodel a 100 year old house in the historic district of Chesapeake. There were lots of challenges, but what is now a home is something that I am proud of. That effort resulted in me receiving an award from the City of Chesapeake for a major renovation project. When I came across a job announcement for the position of Production Design Coordinator for Hatchett Design/Remodel, I just felt that position had my name all over it! The job description required all of the skill sets that I had acquired and it was for a design and remodeling company! I just felt that it was my dream job! After applying and interviewing twice I was hired!
What is your favorite thing about working at Hatchett Design Remodel?
I really like the fact that it is a small family owned business and that there is a team approach to accomplishing all the client projects. As a new member of the team, watching each person assist one another is something that I truly appreciate.
What do you like to do when you’re not working?
Spending time with my family and friends and building those memories is priceless. My husband and I like to cruise, so we try to do that at least twice a year. Traveling and being able to experience different cultures is something we both enjoy. Nice weather will find me “digging in the dirt” in my flowerbeds. Rainy days and colder weather will find me with a good book and a hot cup of tea or doing something creative! I enjoy attending Calvary Revival Church where my spirit is always nurtured. Giving back is also important and that is accomplished by serving at a soup kitchen in Norfolk, being a member of the Chesapeake Human Services Advisory Board and being a member of the Portsmouth Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
It is a blessing to have such a full and varied life and I try to not take that for granted!
