Gamache Kitchen Remodel

Mr. and Mrs. Gamache moved into their mother’s home several years ago. They loved the location, view of the golf course and sentimental value of the home, but the house itself left a little to be desired. The kitchen, in particular, was cramped and inefficient.
Gamache Kitchen BEFORE
Rooms throughout the house were in dire need of updating, so the Gamaches hired Hatchett Design Remodel to transform this old house into their dream home.

Demo Day
After our initial consultation, Jessica designed the plans and helped the Gamaches select the materials for their new kitchen. Then the real fun began… Demo Day! The Gamaches wanted in on the action, so the missus took a couple good whacks to say “good-bye and good riddance” to their old kitchen.
Mrs. Gamache was excited about Demo Day!

Customizing The Kitchen
They were both happy to see the old stuff go. They love to cook and entertain, so they couldn’t wait for our team to make-over their kitchen. Jessica’s design tripled the size of the kitchen by removing a few walls. She also added large windows across the back of the house, so that the Gamaches can fully enjoy their beautiful view. Their new, open-concept kitchen provides ample space for food prep, cooking, baking, gathering, eating and storage!
Their Mid Continent cabinets are cherry with the firestone stain and black glaze. The rich tone of the cabinets is complemented by the softer tones of the Silestone Lyra Quartz countertops and Mineral Stix Mosaic Tile backsplash. We selected stainless steel pulls from Top Knobs‘ Griggs collection as a nice contrast to the dark cabinets.

We plumbed the sink into the island, so it is across from the cooktop. It’s a Prolific Sink by Kohler with a Moen Arbor MotionSense pull-down faucet in stainless steel to match the cabinet hardware.

With such a large, open-concept kitchen, Jessica recommended these Fulton pendant lights by Hinkley to help fill the space. While they are large statement pieces, the airy quality of the design keeps them from looking cumbersome.

The appliances were a very important part of this renovation. These avid cooks chose a Thermador wall oven with a built-in microwave along with a Thermador induction cooktop. The chimney hood and dishwasher are also by Thermador, but they opted for a French door refrigerator made by KitchenAide.

The Remodeling Experience with Hatchett

When we finished this project, we asked the Gamaches for feedback about their remodeling experience with Hatchett.

What’s your favorite part of your remodeled kitchen?

My favorite would have to be the island, but it’s a hard choice! The lights are awesome and the induction stove top…cooking is so easy. We also love the appliance garages, the drawer organizers and the sink. So I guess I just love it all!

Why did you choose Hatchett to remodel your kitchen?

We chose Hatchett, because we were so impressed with the renovations you did to our last house back in 1987.

What did you enjoy about the remodeling process?

Our favorite part of the process was watching the design take shape!

What would you change about your kitchen remodel?

Not a thing!

What advice do you have for anyone planning to remodel?

Our advice to others would be to be careful about whom you hire to work on your house! Hatchett’s team helped us through every step of the process. They made what could have been a difficult, stressful process much easier! We trusted them to do the job right, and they consistently exceeded our expectations!

Beal Kitchen Remodel

Hatchett Design Remodel is delighted to share the kitchen remodel we recently completed for the Beal family. Their kitchen is a prime example of how white cabinets can make your kitchen appear much larger.

White Cabinets

The Beals decided to keep their original cabinets, but we painted them Divinity white. The white surface of the wall cabinets bounces light around the kitchen and brightens up the space.

We replaced the old island with a larger one. The cabinets are from the Mid Continent’s Thomas collection, and they are painted Flint gray.

Tile & Countertops

The backsplash tile ties the white and gray cabinets together. For added visual interest, these Carrara 1″x3″ subway tiles from Mosaic Tile were installed in a chevron pattern.

The island and perimeter cabinets are topped with Silestone Eternal Calcutta Quartz with an ogee edge.
Functional Work Space

Jessica, the designer, incorporated two sinks into this remodel. In addition to the Kohler Whitehaven apron sink, there’s an Indio bar sink in the island to help with food prep.

Mixing Metals

While they chose polished nickel for their cabinet hardware and sink fixtures, Jessica suggested mixing metals by adding Winter Gold light fixtures from Capital Lighting’s Carrington Collection.

Upon completion, we asked the Beals to give us a little feedback about their experience.
What inspired you to remodel your kitchen?
We chose to remodel our kitchen to make it brighter, more updated, and more “ours”. We spend most of our time in the kitchen, so we wanted it to feel like our happy place.
What is your favorite feature of your new kitchen?
Can I say “all of it”? If I had to narrow it down, the light fixtures and farm sink. Love, love, love!
What did you enjoy about the remodeling process Hatchett follows?
I really liked Hatchett’s organized, methodical approach to the remodel. Our Project Manager, Tommy, kept us on time and on budget. He also helped make recommendations along the way that allowed for us to improve the initial plan even more… and he made the farm sink fit!  Communication was great and all contractors were kind, professional, and thorough.
And lastly, is there anything you would change?
We honestly wouldn’t change a thing!

Kudos to our team led by Michael, the design consultant; Jessica, the designer; and Tommy, Project Manager. The Beal kitchen is another job well done!

Patel Kitchen Remodel

The Patels came to Hatchett with specific remodeling goals for their home in Chesapeake, but they needed our help to bring their new kitchen to life. They shared their wish list with our design team during the initial consultation. They wanted to brighten up the space by removing the dining room wall and adding a window to the side of the house. They wanted to remove their current kitchen peninsula and install a larger island. And lastly, Mrs. Patel had a collection of elephant designed tiles that she wanted incorporated into the backsplash.
Patel Kitchen BEFORE
In order to make their new kitchen footprint as efficient as possible, Ashley relocated the sink and dishwasher to the Patel’s new kitchen island. Then she replaced the traditional range with a cooktop and a French door wall oven to make it easier for them to access the oven.
Patel Kitchen AFTER
The Ultracraft cabinets are shaker style, made from maple wood and painted arctic white. Replacing the dark kitchen cabinets with white ones brightens the space and bounces the natural light from the new window. To complement the light fixtures, Ashley chose crystal hardware from Top Knobs for cabinets.
White subway tiles accentuate Mrs. Patel’s elephant tiles, and the Cambria Quartz Windermere tops complete the look.

Lastly, we installed GE Cafe Appliances (including that awesome French door oven) and hardwood floors throughout the entire downstairs.

Great job, team! Special shout out to Kevin (Remodel Consultant), Kent (Project Manager), Ashley (Designer) and the entire crew who transformed the Patel’s kitchen.

Muellner Kitchen Remodel

Every kitchen remodel is different. While some kitchens only need small fixes, others require a more extensive renovation to bring the space up to date. Mr. and Mrs. Muellner chose Hatchett Design Remodel to transform their dark, cramped kitchen into a bright, open floor plan.
Muellner Kitchen BEFORE
After meeting with our design team, the Muellers gave free creative reign to Ashley to design their new kitchen. They only had 4 requests: white cabinets with “a pop of color”, a pantry, a wine cooler, and a large island that could seat 4 while providing functional storage. Challenge accepted!

The Plan
Ashley bellied up to her computer and got to work. The wall between the kitchen and the living room was the first thing to go.

She decreased the size of the window over the sink from 48″ to 36″ wide, then she added a matching picture frame window on the left side of the range.

Ashley then suggested that they replace the 8-foot sliding glass door to their sunroom with a 5-foot French door. This created a few extra feet of functional work space.

Material Selections

Ashley’s design included white shaker cabinets from Ultracraft that extend all the way up to the ceiling. The countertops are Vicostone Misterior Quartz, and the backsplash is Genesi Bianco with mist grout. For that pop of color Mrs. Muellner requested, we used Sherwin Williams’ Grand Canal on their custom painted island.

Since mixed metals are all the rage right now, Ashley combined black lighting fixtures and champagne bronze hardware into the kitchen design.
To complement the golden hues of their hardware, the Muellners decided to splurge a little for a custom range hood by Blue Star. The color they opted for is called Enchanted Sand, and as you can see, it’s stunning!

Kent, the Project Manager, and Ashley, the Designer
The Muellners are thrilled with their new kitchen, and we couldn’t be prouder of our team!  Great job Kevin, Ashley, Kent and our whole crew that made this transformation happen!
