Scudder Kitchen Remodel

October 31, 2018

When the Scudders decided they were ready to renovate their home, they called Hatchett Design Remodel. The plan was to remodel their bathroom first, then we’d do the kitchen and add a sunroom. Sadly, before construction began, Mr. Scudder passed away. Remodeling plans were put on hold until Mrs. Scudder was ready to proceed. When she reached back out to her design consultant, Jake, she told him that they waited too long to remodel. She was ready to start the renovations and enjoy their home as long as she can!

Scudder Sunroom Addition Before & After
Mrs. Scudder is a big fan of bright, lively colors, because they make her feel happy. She chose a vibrant blue for her kitchen and the adjacent sunroom.

With such a bold color choice, her designer, Eileen, recommended light colored cabinets. Embracing the two-toned cabinet trend, they decided on white uppers and a light walnut for the lower cabinets.

Mrs. Scudder’s farm sink is also trending. It’s a trend that has proven to have longevity – likely due in part to the size of its basin. While very stylish, a Kohler Whitehave apron sink is ideal for anyone who regularly cooks with (and cleans) large pots and pans.

Her backsplash is Hirsch “Make a Statement” glass mosaic tile – and indeed it does! This exquisite tile contains a variety of colors from the vibrant blue of her walls to the warm tones of her lower cabinets. The countertops are Silestone Lusso Quartz. These white tops with earthy-toned veining help tie the upper and lower cabinets together.

These Elk pendant lights are the finishing touch to Mrs. Scudder’s happy kitchen. The blue glass shades inspire the same joyful feeling of finding a beautiful piece of sea glass along the shore.

Eileen has a special place in her heart for Mrs. Scudder and this project. We hope she enjoys living in her remodeled home as much as we enjoyed designing and building it. Special thanks to Jake, Eileen, and the Project Manager, Tyler, for yet another job well done.
