The Brooks are HDR Frequent Flyers, and we recently embarked on their latest remodeling project – a new master bath for the mister.
BEFORE and AFTER
Our task was to update the space into a traditional design aesthetic. Mrs. Brooks has great taste, so we knew selecting materials would be a breeze. The floor plan, however, was an obstacle we needed to overcome. The original layout was cramped, and there was quite a bit of wasted space. By relocating the doorway, we were able to use the entire wall opposite of the shower for the vanity.
The Brooks chose a beautiful white painted cabinet with a toe treatment by StarMack Cabinetry. Adding a toe treatment like this is a great way to embellish a piece without being overly ornate.
We topped the vanity with a Vic Stone Misterio Quartz remnant that mimics the look of marble without the fragility or maintenance of real marble.
They chose a handmade subway tile for the shower walls and the accent wall behind the vanity. Rather than laying the tile in a linear pattern, we used a herringbone pattern to create more visual interest. For the heated floors, they opted for the timeless beauty of an Arabescato & Athens Gray Basketweave from Mosaic Tile Company.
Since this bathroom is used primarily by Mr. Brooks, the missus asked us to work in elements that would personalize the space for him. While Mrs. Brooks is Mr. Brooks’ first love, his boat is a close second. So we personalized the shower drain with the name of his beloved, Liquid Asset.
The blue glow of the Kohler Archer Toilet with Night Light Seat echoes the lights of his boat – so he’ll never lose his way!
We asked Mrs. Brooks what she loved most about their new bathroom. Unable to narrow it down to just one thing, she said, “I love the tile we picked, especially the herringbone pattern. I adore the shower doors; they are so easy to slide, and the design is elegantly streamlined. The heated floors are a real luxury on chilly mornings. And I love that the bathroom ‘fits’ the age and style of our house, while looking fresh and clean.”
She also said, “everyone who worked on this job was professional, courteous, and kind.” She continued, “From the beginning, Michael was clear and detailed about procedures, costs, and schedules; Jessica was so helpful with design selections; and Kent was always ready with answers to questions, coordination of workers, and an ever-present, cheerful smile.”
