It’s the unofficial last weekend of summer, and it’s a three dayer! What are you going to do? If you’re wishing you’d made vacation plans, but think it’s too late… think again. From Virginia Beach up through Newport News and Williamsburg, Hampton Roads has so much to offer tourists (whether they live here or not). Hatchett Design Remodel has a few suggestions on how to make your Labor Day weekend the best staycation ever!
Play on the Water
The forecast is perfect for spending time on or by the water, so try something new! You could spend a day in the sand at the oceanfront. A perfect day like that needs a perfect ending, like a guided Sunset Stand Up Paddleboard Tour across Linkhorn Bay in Virginia Beach. You may even have a close encounter with an Atlantic bottlenose dolphins, blue herons, or kingfishers.
For more of an adrenaline rush on the water, check out Great White Watersports with locations on the Peninsula and Southside. You can take advantage of their jetski dolphin tours or just do your own thing. They also offer flyboard rentals for those daring (and coordinated) enough to try it!
Play Ball!
For those who’d rather spectate than participate, the Norfolk Tides are in all weekend at Harbor Park – with fireworks both Saturday and Sunday night. Come root for your home team as they take on the Charlotte Knights.
Take a Tour
Looking for a fun and educational way to spend a beautiful day? Check to see if your city has a walking tour. Places like Colonial Williamsburg offer several guided walking tours as you might expect, but there are lots of self-guided walking tours as well. The Casemate Museum in Hampton mapped out this walking tour of Fort Monroe. For insta-worthy photo-ops, The City of Norfolk has a self-guided downtown Mermaid Walking Tour as well as a guided Mural Tour through the NEON District.
A budding entrepreneur recently launched a new Pedal Brewery Tour just in time for Labor Day weekend. You may have seen these self-propelled tour buses in other cities, but now you can safely pedal your way through Norfolk’s most popular brew pubs.
Or plan your own brewery tour! Hampton Roads as a whole offers about 30 local taprooms. Depending on how much ground you want to cover, your customized craft beer bonanza could stretch from the Farm House in Virginia Beach up to Oozelfinch in Hampton and Alewerks in Williamsburg. Please be responsible and designate a sober driver to ensure that everyone safely has a good time.
Take a Hike
If you prefer a nature trail to an urban tour, take a hike! Noland Trail in Newport News is a local favorite. This five-mile loop makes being in the middle of a city feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere. The whole family, whether 2-legged or 4, is sure to enjoy!
You’ve got three days, so choose a few of these options and plan a fun-filled staycation right here in Hampton Roads. Whatever you decide to do this Labor Day weekend, Hatchett Design Remodel hopes it’s with friends and family. Enjoy the day off… you’ve earned it!
