Holiday Lights Self-Guided Tour

December 22, 2020

Hampton Roads has a lot to offer, especially when it comes to holiday light displays. We have drive-thru displays that span the area from the Oceanfront lights in Virginia Beach to Norfolk Botanical Gardens and Newport News Park. While those displays are magnificent, Hatchett Design Remodel is particularly fond of homeowners who transform their front yards into magical wonderlands for children of all ages. Here are a few of our favorites.

Fans of National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation are flocking to this home for family photos and selfies with the Griswolds. This homeowner is an antique car collector, and he has gone to great lengths to recreate scenes from this iconic holiday film. When you visit 489 London Bridge Road in Virginia Beach, please be sure to bring a non-perishable food donation (for humans or pets).

Vintage Christmas Collection in Hampton

131 Deep Run Road, Hampton.

In Hampton, at 131 Deep Run Road, this home’s front yard is filled with an eclectic collection of Christmas decorations. This display includes lights, vintage blow molds, antique department store window displays, a toy train, and of course a few inflatables. Barbie fans are in for a treat at this house as well.
Walk-Thru Winter Wonderland in Chesapeake
Home Holiday Light Display Chesapeake

4028 Woodland Drive, Chesapeake.

Every year, the Williford family puts on an impressive display of holiday cheer at their home located at 4028 Woodland Drive in Chesapeake. This year’s display is toned-down a bit for crowd control, but it’s still quite spectacular. About half of their two acre lot is covered in lights, inflatable lawn decorations, and vintage department store displays. You will enter at the walkway leading to their home, and you will exit down their driveway. The Woodland Christmas Wonderland is lit up nightly, and they are collecting donations for the Portsmouth Humane Society again this year.
Local Map of Hampton Roads Home Holiday Light Displays
These and dozens of other displays can be found on this very handy map. Sam Sansalone, a local Christmas light aficionado, spent 100 driving hours mapping out the best light displays in Hampton Roads. With the help of his fellow fans, Sam has created a color coded map to help you find the best displays in your neighborhood. Green pins are must-sees. Blues are very impressive. Reds are unconfirmed for this year. Purples are taking this year off. Can you really blame them? These displays are a lot of work! Click the pins for descriptions of each display.
However you celebrate the holidays, we hope it’s full of light and joy. Merry Christmas from all of us at Hatchett Design Remodel!
