As we welcome a new year, we also usher in new home remodeling trends. While a trendy home might not be everyone’s cup of tea, we are sure that some of these kitchen and bathroom trends will provide inspiration for updating your home.
Overall, 2023 home design trends can be described as cozy, warm, and inviting with bright, organic, and functional features. This year, our designers envision a move away from stark cool tones which were a big trend in the past few years.
You’ll see a transitional style overall with many hints of traditional styles.
What is Transitional Style?
A transitional style is a balanced mix of traditional design and modern and contemporary design. Often times transitional design is relaxed and laid back with pops of colors to add a modern flair.
What is Traditional Style?
The traditional style is rooted in the 18th and 19th centuries, with darker woods and furniture that is comfortable and classic. The traditional style is often timeless and rarely looks outdated, making it a great jumping-off point for the transitional style.
Interior Paint Color Trends
One of the most impactful ways to update your home is to paint interior walls or furniture pieces. Behr, Benjamin Moore, and Sherwin-Williams unveiled their 2023 Colors of the Year. These colors are warm, and inviting, and fit seamlessly into a transitional style home.

Behr Blank Canvas
The 2023 Behr Color of the Year is Blank Canvas. This soft white has warm undertones that invite light to bounce off and illuminate your space.
Blank Canvas is the perfect kitchen cabinet color in situations where white might be a bit too stark. Consider using in small bathrooms where natural light might be limited.

Benjamin Moore Raspberry Blush
Benjamin Moore’s Raspberry Blush is a vibrant, saturated shade of red orange.
This upbeat statement color is ideal for a statement wall in a living room or as a pop of color in your powder room.
Benjamin Moore suggests pairing with more neutral colors, such as Etiquette or Onyx.

Sherwin-Williams Redend Point
If you’re looking for a more earthy, calming neutral, consider Sherwin-Williams’ Redend Point.
This red undertoned paint color couples well with natural textures and warm whites. Pair it with natural textures like rattan and jute and it will make any room warm, inviting, and calming.
Adding Curves
In 2023, we foresee curves making their appearance in more and more homes. Curves add a softness that adds to a more comforting, inviting home.
Large architectural curves, such as walls, windows, and doorways, can make a huge impact on your space. However, even smaller curves like the edges of kitchen islands and barstools can create a similar vibe.

Butler’s Pantries
A butler’s pantry, sometimes referred to as a scullery, working pantry, or functional pantry is typically a transitional room between the kitchen and dining room.
These pantry areas allow you to hide appliances that may otherwise clutter your counters, add additional food storage space, and can be used as a hidden coffee bar.

Multiple Workspaces
Along the same lines as a butler’s pantry, multiple workspaces allow you to move away from the traditional triangle kitchen arrangement.
Coffee bars, cocktail/wine bars, and specific prep spaces within kitchens are a kitchen trend we hope sticks around.

Trending Bathroom Features
Bathroom design in 2023 can be summarized by light, but not white, bold, spa-like bathrooms, with bold accents. Easy-maintenance materials and designs, natural wood tones, and high-end accents can be seen in these luxurious bathrooms.
Floating Vanities
Lift those vanities up off the floor with this 2023 bathroom trend.

Gold Accents
In 2023, expect to see more gold accents throughout bathrooms. Gold drawer pulls, faucets, shower heads, and mirrors are sure to shine this year.
Recently, our team took a trip to Ferguson and our designers picked out their favorite signature hardware, several including gold accents.
Tile Trends
Tile trends for 2023 are all about making a statement. From dramatic backsplashes to handmade organic tiles, our Hatchett Design Remodel designers are excited to incorporate these into more kitchen renovations and bathroom remodels.
Quartz Backsplashes
Kitchen backsplashes and walk-in showers are getting an upgrade with quartz slabs. As opposed to individual pieces of tile, these quartz slabs are easier to clean and are a simple, but more unique look!
Handmade or Zellige Tiles
Handmade or Zellige Tiles add dimension and organic touch to any kitchen or bathroom. When considering a finish, choose a higher gloss for a more elevated, illuminating design.

Patterned Tiles
Just as a bold wallpaper can add personality to your powder room, so can decorative, patterned tiles! Mix bold patterned tiles with neutral tiles to create a visual focal point.
Don’t want to commit to a full wall of patterned tile? Consider adding to a shower niche.
Lighting Trends
Lighting your home is practical, but can also add style and personality to your space. Layered lighting is a trend in itself as you add functionality and style to spaces within each room.

Wall Sconces
Wall sconces soften the lighting and enhance a cozy interior. Flank bathroom mirrors, fireplaces, and statement art pieces with modern sconces this year.
Statement Light Fixtures
Oversized chandeliers and pendant lights are sure to trend in 2023. Asymmetrical, eclectic, and organic light fixtures are a smart addition to any kitchen, living room, or office space.
Back-Lit Mirror | Johnson Master Bath
Lit Bathroom Mirrors
Moving away from overhead vanity mirror lights, LED-lit bathroom mirrors are making their way into 2023.
LED-lit bathroom mirrors are energy efficient, provide quality lighting, and make putting on makeup infinitely easier as they don’t cast shadows on your face – making makeup look exactly as you intended it.
Warm Woods
The last trend we foresee making an impact on 2023 home remodeling design is the incorporation of warmer-toned woods. Yellow or red undertones add warmth to interior spaces.
Cherry, mahogany, and hickory are typically viewed as warm woods and pair well with the 2023 paint colors. Walnut is more versatile in that it can work with warm or cool tones.
Raw and natural finished woods are also making a statement in 2023. Organic materials (wicker, ratan) are perfect interior design accents to any room.
