Hatchett Design Remodel invites interns to join our team every summer. It’s a win/win. They get priceless hands-on experience, and we get a helping hand during one of our busiest seasons!
This summer, Hatchett is happy to have Daniel join our construction crew. Daniel is entering his sophomore year at Virginia Tech and will be majoring in Building Construction.
If you have the pleasure of meeting Daniel at Hatchett this summer, here’s some insider information to help you get to know him better.
What are your daily duties at Hatchett?
I’m a field intern which means I assist Project Managers however needed and learn from them. Some of the work consists of site protection, demolition, prep work, installations, paperwork, and problem solving.
How does your Internship prepare you for long-term career goals?
This internship gives me experience that I can use for the rest of my life. I’m learning skills on the job site that I can’t learn in a classroom, and it will always be there forever. Each day, I’m becoming better prepared for my construction career – learning how to visualize and understand exactly what I am looking at, as well as how I will fix or construct a project.
If you were a new addition to the crayon box, what color would you be and why?
I would be the color Blue. Blue is the color of the sky and the sea, it is so peaceful and calming.
Maybe one day Daniel will build a bathroom like this – inspired by his favorite coastal color.

Let’s say you walk out the door on your last day of your internship, find a lottery ticket and win 10 million dollars… What would you do?
I would buy vacation homes for my family – one somewhere on a beach and the other in Blacksburg by the mountains. I would also renovate them to my standards.
What are you binge watching this summer?
If you could sing one American Idol song, what would it be?
